The architect wanted to put a fresh spin on the Ashley Furniture brand and define the various components of the showroom and warehouse building without additional cost or installation difficulties. Gage Brothers was able to provide a solution by virtue of the textural flexibility of precast concrete. The use of precast provided a deep and expansive design palette and offered to the architect an unlimited vocabulary for design concepts to be executed in a broad range of architectural styles, shapes, and sizes.

In holding to the Gage Brothers tradition of manufacturing innovative building products, the bottom four feet of precast for the Ashley Home Store were cast on an ashlar stone form liner. Once these pieces were installed, the individual stone blocks within the panel were stained a different color to replicate a natural stone product. The end result was an exterior with the look and feel of hand-set, natural field stone with the durability of precast concrete.

Iron spot brick and banding with acid-etch washes was used to break up the building both vertically and horizontally, while inlaid copper was added to the front elevation to create a truly one-of-a-kind look.

The use of precast gave the client greater design flexibility, substantial savings on labor and material and reduced panel construction and installation time. With 45,000 square feet of retail space and an additional 40,000 square feet of warehouse storage, this location is one of the Ashley Furniture chain’s largest stores.
